Crispy Air Fryer Spicy Garlic Parmesan Wings

by Brittany Hollie

It’s wing season! Okay, I’m not REALLY sure if that’s a thing, but I’m thinking we should make it a thing because who doesn’t associate wings with the Super Bowl?! The Super Bowl is this Sunday, and we already know that wings will be on practically everyone’s menu! But these wings…these Crispy Air Fryer Spicy Garlic Parmesan Wings need to be on your menu!

Crispy Air Fryer Spicy Garlic Parmesan Wings

These Spicy Garlic Parmesan Wings are better than any garlic parmesan wings you could buy from a restaurant or your favorite pizza shop. These Crispy Air Fryer Spicy Garlic Parmesan Wings are FULL of flavor; the seasoning is not lacking on these babies. They are perfectly crispy, no flour needed…I used the special trick from my Sweet Heat Bourbon Chicken Wings and   Spicy Cherry Glazed Chicken Wings recipe. Fresh garlic cloves are an absolute MUST in this recipe! Yes, you can use garlic powder on the wings themselves, but the sauce deserves freshly minced garlic cloves.

How to Make Crispy Air Fryer Spicy Garlic Parmesan Wings

One of my absolute favorite ways to make crispy wings in the oven (or now the air fry) is to coat the chicken wings in baking powder to mimic flour-coated and fried wings. It does the trick every single time! I explain the whole process in mySpicy Cherry Glazed Chicken Wings post, so click over there and read that post.

Anyway, you’re going to mix all of the seasonings into the baking powder. Then, you’re going to sprinkle that mixture onto the patted dry chicken wings. That baking powder will work its magic, and when it’s all said and done, the wings will look like they’ve been battered and fried!

When the wings have about 8 minutes left of cooking time, start preparing the Spicy Garlic Parmesan Wing Sauce. This will be the easiest wing sauce you’ve ever made. All you have to do is melt the butter, heat up the garlic in the butter, and stir in the seasonings. DONE!

Once the wings have finished cooking, add them to a large mixing bowl. I like to use a stainless steel bowl. Pour the wing sauce over the wings and then toss to coat. Next, sprinkle on about 1 1/2 tablespoons of the grated Parmesan cheese and the chopped parsley (use however much you like), and then toss the wings to coat again.

When you serve the wings, top them with the remaining grated Parmesan cheese. Now you must dig in and devour them!

Tips for the Best Spicy Garlic Parmesan Wings

Now, I didn’t want to make these screaming hot wings because not everybody likes a ton of heat. So feel free to adjust the cayenne pepper and hot sauce (I used Tabasco’s Chipotle Hot Sauce) measurements to whatever you’re comfortable with. You do not have to use the same hot sauce I used. Use your favorite hot sauce in this recipe or experiment with that new hot sauce you’ve been eyeing in your grocery store. You could use Sriracha or my favorite, gochujang, or you could use gochugaru flakes instead of cayenne pepper. Use whatever you have in the pantry.

To get the finest finely minced garlic, use a garlic press in this recipe. I tend to use a garlic press nearly every time I cook because it saves time, and you can’t beat the ease of use.

You can serve these wings with ranch dipping sauce or blue cheese or nothing at all. I don’t use any type of dipping sauce on these wings. Do whatever makes you happy though!

Don’t forget to share and tag me in your pictures when you make these Crispy Air Fryer Spicy Garlic Parmesan Wings! These wings are truly perfect for any event or party, don’t just make them for the Super Bowl. I’m definitely making another batch of these and my Sweet Heat Bourbon Wings this weekend. Anyway, be sure to share this recipe with your friends and family using the share buttons at the top, side, or bottom of this post.

Keyword: air fryer, wings
Servings: 2 people

Ingredients
Wings:
  • 1 1/4 pounds wings about 10 wings
  • 1 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • Chopped parsley for garnish
Sauce:
  • 1/4 cup salted butter
  • 2 teaspoon hot sauce Chipotle hot sauce
  • 1/4-1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 4 garlic cloves finely minced
Instructions
Chicken wings:
  1. In a small bowl, combine the baking powder, sea salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper.
  2. If your wings are whole, cut them into drums and flats and remove the wing tip. Save the wing tips for future stock or broth by placing them in a ziplock bag and storing them in the freezer.
  3. Pat the wings dry and then sprinkle the baking powder seasoning mixture onto the chicken wings.
  4. Grease 2 racks in your air fryer. If your air fryer only has a basket, then grease that.
  5. Place the wings onto the greased racks. If you’re using a basket, you may have to cook all of the chicken in two batches.
  6. Cook the wings for 15 minutes at 250℉. Flip the wings over and switch the racks around so that the top will be at the bottom and the bottom rack will be at the top.
  7. Now, cook the wings at 400℉ for at least 15-20 minutes, or until the chicken wings are done and crispy.
  8. Place the wings into a large bowl and then coat them with the wing sauce. Toss in the parmesan cheese and chopped parsley, and toss the wings a little bit more.
Spicy Garlic Parmesan Wing Sauce:
  1. In a small saucepan set over medium-low heat, combine the butter, hot sauce, cayenne pepper, smoked paprika, and minced garlic. Stir the sauce.
  2. Once the butter has fully melted, toss the wings in the sauce.
Recipe Notes

Notes: I used Tabasco's Chipotle Hot Sauce. Adjust the heat levels to whatever you would like. Add in more hot sauce and cayenne pepper or decrease it.
