I’m always telling people they should seriously consider detoxing regularly to stay….well, regular. Pun intended! LOL But detoxing is so much more than staying regular. With my Apple Cider Vinegar Detox Tea recipe, your body will be praising you for taking the time to make a pitcher of this liquid gold every week!
I first started making this tea a year ago, but I made individual servings every morning because I was only using a small sprinkle of each ingredient. I grew tired of this about 3 weeks ago. So I decided to make enough to last me for a week! Consequently, it’s a lot easier for me to share this recipe with you guys instead of telling you all to add a pinch of this and a dab of that.
As a child, every few years I would see my mom detox using the Atkins Diet and The Master Cleanse Diet in order to lose a few pounds. (In case you are wondering, they both work. With one diet, she lost 20 pounds and lost 30 pounds with the other.) The Master Cleanse Diet intrigued me the most. If you aren’t familiar with it click here to read more about it. Anyway, The Master Cleanse Diet is basically lemonade made with maple syrup instead of sugar with a dash of cayenne. Several years had passed before I decided to research why this diet worked.
Anyway, I’m not here to talk about The Master Cleanse Diet! I want to share with you guys exactly why my Apple Cider Vinegar Detox Tea works for me and so many others. I know that right about now you are probably thinking why in the heck is she drinking apple cider vinegar?! I know, I know! It sounds totally unorthodox, but hear me out, please.
What’s up with Apple Cider Vinegar Detox Tea?
The type of apple cider vinegar I want you using in this recipe needs to be RAW, ORGANIC, UNPASTEURIZED, and UNFILTERED. The tan tinted apple cider vinegar you are accustomed to buying won’t do a thing for your body. It’s basically trash and it really has no purpose in your house.
Here are a few facts about apple cider vinegar for your body: it can help you lose weight because of the acetic acid which also helps lower your blood sugar, it can detoxify your liver, it can help the body maintain a more alkaline environment, it can help with sinus congestion by reducing the mucous in your body, it contains antibacterial properties which can help fight sore throats, it can improve the amount of acid in the stomach to help with digestion and acid reflux problems, and most importantly, it contains plenty of amino acids to help give you an energy boost! As you can see the apple cider vinegar can do wonders for your body, but it’s not the only star in this show! I know you are looking at these pictures and wondering why there are so many spices in this tea. Well, I’ve read so much about each of these spices and what they can do for my body so I decided to place them in my tea. Cinnamon, cardamom, cayenne, black pepper, turmeric, and ginger are considered warming spices that “increase your metabolism, shrink fat tissue, and suppress your appetite.” So these spices will help you lose weight and help with weight management. I am most positive that that is a score in everyone’s books. Here’s a link to read more about each warming spice. As always, I suggest to you all that you should buy these spices organic whenever possible. There are some pretty gnarly pesticides being sprayed on spices before and after they are harvested. The only spice in my recipe that is not considered a warming spice is granulated garlic, but it is TOTALLY necessary in this recipe because 1. It makes the tea taste even better and 2. Garlic is chock-full of astonishing benefits for our bodies. According to studies, garlic fights 160 diseases, including cancer! I think I can stop right here. Garlic breath doesn’t sound so bad after all, huh? LOL Garlic reduces inflammation and has antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, and antiparasitic properties. The last two key ingredients in this recipe are lemon juice and raw honey. I’m telling you right now that I am side-eyeing you if you use lemon juice from concentrate. Don’t do it! We’ve had this talk recently about preservatives so I want you to buy fresh lemons from the grocery store or the farmer’s market and squeeze them puppies yourself! And please don’t buy the honey bears! I know they are cute, but they have been so processed that they are technically not even considered honey by the FDA standards.
You need lemon juice in this recipe because it’s going to cleanse your body as well. Lemon juice wakes up your digestive system and tricks your liver into producing bile which keeps things moving smoothly. Lemon juice, like apple cider vinegar, keeps your insulin levels steady helping your body better absorb nutrients from foods. Lemons are full of Vitamin C which can help your body produce collagen and reduce free radicals that can lead to diseases and cancer. Lastly, it can also boost your energy! (Dr. Axe)
Raw honey is one of my favorite superfoods that people barely recognize for their superpowers. Because raw honey has not been heated the vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and bee pollen still remain together! Raw honey becomes alkaline in the digestive system, helps relieve digestion, helps with weight management, and of course provides energy! (Dr. Axe)
A Few Tips
The few tips I have for drinking this Apple Cider Vinegar Detox Tea is to remember not to heat up the apple cider vinegar in the microwave or its healing properties may be diminished. The same goes for the raw honey; just add the apple cider vinegar and raw honey to the tea after it has been heated. If you have more than one person in the house that wants to drink this, multiply the recipe by the number of people in the house.
This tea WILL push things along if you know what I mean so you should probably drink this as soon as you wake up so you don’t have to relieve yourself at work! LOL Also, if you’d like to start out slowly you can reduce the amount of spices until your body gets used to it. And I’d suggest making this on Saturday night or Sunday morning so it will last you the whole week.
I know you are wondering where the heck is the tea?! There is no actual tea here, but once you mix this concoction up it resembles tea. I had to find something that would help me fight inflammation and pain as well as help me control my weight since Chronic Fatigue Syndrome forces me to experience post-exertional malaise making it hard for me to workout consistently. This tea works for me and so many others. I’ve been told by a few people that they have completely stopped drinking coffee in the morning because this tea energizes them so well!
