This is the BEST tasting, nutrient-dense smoothie you’re ever going to blend! I’m a huge fan of mango lassis and I strongly believe my twist on this classic that I am dubbing Mango Moringa Lassi takes the cake! I’ll let you guys be the judge, though. Since this is my own interpretation of a mango lassi I encourage you to use this recipe as a guide and create your own variations as you see fit! Don’t like mangos? Replace them with strawberries or raspberries.

As you can discern from the pictures this isn’t your average mango lassi since something has turned this green. That something is moringa leaf powder, arguably one of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet! Let me preface this recipe with letting you guys know that I am a recent mango lover convert. I also haven’t been drinking this Mango Moringa Lassi for very long either, maybe 3-4 months now. My nose would always turn up at the sight of mangos. I’m not sure why I didn’t like them; if I guessed, I would say I probably had tasted an unripe mango at some point. Anyway, I decided to give mangoes a chance for redemption by tasting a mango margarita…when I tell you guys I felt like I had tasted liquid rainbows and unicorns! LOL, I became resentful of all the past times I had turned down mangoes. What was wrong with me? *sigh* You live and you learn, eh?

After the mango margarita experience, I swiftly made my way to the grocery store and purchased a few mangoes. I’ve been buying mangos, cutting, and then freezing them ever since that day. Smoothies are my absolute favorite way to consume mangoes. I’ve always been familiar with mango lassis from researching Indian cuisine so I decided several months ago to try my hand at making a lassi. By far, it was one of the best smoothies I had ever made. Lassi is a smoothie that is heavy on yogurt and is spiced with ground cardamom. I bought some moringa leaf powder a few months ago and decided to add it to my mango lassi. Now I don’t think I will ever go back to making a mango lassi without it because it adds a great “greens,” earthy flavor and the health benefits are so beneficial.

Why a Mango Moringa Lassi?

Moringa leaf powder is chock-full of protein, vitamins A, B6, C, iron, magnesium, and riboflavin. Moringa is also rich in antioxidants such as quercetin, which may help lower blood pressure and chlorogenic acid, which may help balance your blood sugar levels after a meal. Antioxidants fight against the free radicals in our bodies that cause aging, oxidative stress, cancer, chronic diseases, etc. Because moringa may help with your blood sugar levels it is a beneficial supplement for diabetic patients to take. Moringa has also been found to have anti-inflammatory agents. Inflammation leads to numerous chronic diseases such as auto-immune diseases (fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, etc.) as well as cancer since inflammation is your body’s response to removing damaged cells, pathogens, or irritants in an attempt to heal itself. Your body needs assistance in order for the inflammation to cease. So for us autoimmune disease fighters we need to take as many anti-inflammatory supplements as possible. Therefore, I hereby dub this drink as the Inflammation Busting Smoothie!  I’ll compose a post in the near future on some of the best natural anti-inflammatory supplements to use. Here are a few resources to check out more information on moringa: Authority Nutrition and Dr. Mercola. I purchased my organic moringa powder from Sprouts Farmers Market. In case you aren’t familiar with mango’s health benefits here are a few facts you should know. Mangoes contain the same antioxidant as moringa to control and lower blood pressure (quercetin.) Mangoes can regulate diabetes, alkalizes the body (an alkalized body keeps cancer cells at bay), lowers cholesterol, helps with digestion (due to enzymes and prebiotic fiber), strengthens your immune system, aids with concentration and memory (due to glutamine acid) and a few other health benefits. Just remember that you would have to consume both the moringa and mango quite often in order for your body to benefit from these claims. As with all health claims, one and done won’t do much of anything for your body. Consistency breeds the benefits you are longing for.
